The U.S. Space Force’s Space Development Agency (SDA) has granted Northrop Grumman a contract worth upwards of $732 million to develop 38 communication satellites that will become part of the Space Force’s low Earth orbit space network, known as the Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture.

These satellites are designated for the Transport Layer Tranche 2 Alpha, a component of SDA's interconnected satellite system consisting of a total of 100 satellites. The Alpha satellites, equipped with communication terminals and data transmission capabilities, are slated for launch in late 2026.

York Space Systems has been selected to construct the remaining 62 spacecraft. Northrop Grumman's contract encompasses ground systems and a commitment for five years of operational and maintenance support, with an additional incentive for timely delivery.
