Canada has signed a Foreign Military Sales Letter of Offer and Acceptance for up to 16 Boeing P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft as part of the Canadian Multi-Mission Aircraft (CMMA) project.

The CMMA initiative aims to acquire an aircraft with extended range and endurance capabilities, specifically tailored for anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare roles, as a replacement for the CP-140 Aurora maritime patrol aircraft.

The move makes Canada the fifth NATO nation and the latest member of the FIVE EYES intelligence alliance to choose the P-8 for its multi-mission aircraft. The other members of the FIVE EYES alliance include the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand.

The first deliveries of the P-8 to Canada are expected in 2026.
