General Dynamics and American Rheinmetall named finalists for Optionally Manned Fighting Vehicle

The U.S. Army has selected General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) and American Rheinmetall as the final two contenders for the Optionally Manned Fighting Vehicle (OMFV) program.
The OMFV program is intended to replace the M2 Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicle, which has been in service since 1981.
The Army has also redesignated the OMFV program vehicle the XM30 Mechanized Infantry Combat Vehicle.
Both firms will submit prototypes for the competition. The Army has specified several key features to be built into the prototypes, including carrying capacity for two operators and six passengers, a 50mm cannon and remote turret, and anti-tank guided missiles, with the latest sensor and fire control systems for the weapons.
The XM30 will also feature a hybrid-electric powertrain.
